FINANCE DIRECTOR – LIFE AND ANNUITIES – BERMUDA – 10% TAX – HR302

About this opportunity

Our client is a Bermuda-based reinsurance company. Reporting to the Bermuda Controller, this position is responsible for driving transformation of processes and controls in Bermuda Controllership function, as well as involvement in the day-to-day operations of the Bermuda Financial Reporting team, including onboarding reinsurance transactions, ledger close, and financial reporting for GAAP, STAT and BSCR.

Accountabilities:

  • Drive transformation of processes and controls in Bermuda Controllership function through review and challenge of existing reporting processes
  • Lead team of managers and other qualified accountants in managing the financial reporting process for nine regulated legal entities and other Group companies
  • Determine proper accounting treatment for complex reinsurance and other strategic transactions on all bases – GAAP, BSTAT and EBS
  • Support transaction teams in review of financial implications of new transactions, including capital impact
  • Coordinate between finance, tax, actuarial, and legal departments on reinsurance and other complex transaction matters
  • Review financial reporting disclosures related to Bermuda legal entity activities, as required in Group SEC 10-K and 10-Q filings, as well as Bermuda legal entity GAAP and Statutory reporting
  • Implement, document, and maintain appropriate processes and controls in accordance with Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) requirements
  • Manage internal and external audit examinations
  • Participate in other ad hoc projects as required

What you’ll need

  • Bachelor’s degree plus a recognised accounting qualification (CPA, ACCA, etc.)
  • 7+ years of professional experience, including 5+ years of recent life and annuity insurance and reinsurance accounting experience
  • 4+ years of demonstrated leadership experience
  • Experience with US GAAP and Bermuda regulatory reporting for reinsurance/insurance companies and life/annuity products
  • Strong controls background, including experience with Sarbanes Oxley
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees
  • Perceptive, self-starter with excellent problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once and know how to prioritise deadlines
  • Willingness to work overtime when required to meet deadlines
  • Dedicated team player who is flexible and adaptable to change
  • Organized and has good attention to detail
