ACTUARIAL DIRECTOR – P&C – NON-LIFE – BERMUDA – 10% TAX – HR102

About this opportunity

Our client is looking for an Actuarial Director with exceptional leadership skills and significant experience in actuarial consulting for the Non-Life / P&C (re)insurance industry, including, but not limited to, experience in managing a diverse portfolio of engagements, managing and mentoring a team of qualified and part-qualified Actuaries and working with multi-disciplinary teams. This is a challenging position where you will lead a team of Actuaries in scoping and defining appropriate analytical tests to achieve client objectives. You will be responsible for interpreting client generated analytical results and preparing client reports.

Responsibilities also include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing a high quality actuarial advisory service to clients
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with both new and existing clients
  • Providing analytical support and technical guidance
  • Completing and auditing loss reserve studies for reinsurance companies domiciled on the island
  • Development of new business through marketing and sales activities
  • Leading the development of new products and services
  • Marketing and raising the profile of the actuarial practice
  • Conducting reinsurance pricing and special actuarial projects
  • Supporting the audit department on client projects as needed
  • Sharing knowledge and experience and contributing to the development of the team
  • Producing thought leadership material
  • Creating value added initiatives
  • Promoting the company actuarial brand through seminars and external events

What you’ll need

  • 10+ years of actuarial experience in industry and consulting
  • FCAS / FIA designation (or equivalent, with a recognized professional actuarial body) with an in-depth knowledge of the Non-Life / P&C (re)insurance industry
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science or other suitable numerate discipline (mathematics, economics, science, etc)
  • Experience with actuarial activities, including loss reserving, capital modelling, pricing and risk management
  • The ability to manage concurrent engagements and play a part in shaping and implementing tailored solutions
  • A high degree of competence in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Exceptional people skills with the ability to work well with staff and clients of all levels
  • A proven track record of strong business development results and excellent client relationship skills
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the proven ability to lead multidisciplinary and multijurisdictional teams
  • First class written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills with experience presenting to Boards of Directors and Board committees
  • Ability to support clients through change, manage stakeholders, mentor team members, manage teams both locally and internationally based
  • Candidates must demonstrate they are capable of working with demanding situations that require the ability to multi-task on a daily basis
  • Flexibility and an enjoyment of working on challenging projects, and interacting with teams from other business groups
  • A willingness and capacity to work overtime and / or travel at short notice is essential as this is a highly demanding environment with tight reporting deadlines
  • Must be a mature, self-motivated individual who is well organised, hard- working, enthusiastic and professional
