ASSISTANT DIRECTOR – INSURANCE SUPERVISION – BERMUDA – ONLY 10% TAX – HR304

About this opportunity

Our client is seeking the services of a skilled and capable individual to work as an Assistant Director in the Supervision (Insurance) Department. Reporting to a Deputy Director, the Assistant Director will be responsible for coordinating and providing insights on regulatory matters involving international standard-setting bodies such as the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) and other regulators. This will include providing advice, guidance and recommendations for our client’s international engagement and advocacy work. Additionally, the post holder will represent our client at certain IAIS sub-committees/ workstreams. The role will involve a high degree of collaboration with colleagues across the Insurance Department.

The post-holder will be responsible for but not limited to:

  • Working collaboratively with Insurance Supervision teams and senior managers, leading the review and analysis of IAIS meeting documentation. Assisting in identifying key regulatory issues, providing insights, and recommending strategic mitigations
  • Organising, supporting, and coordinating our client’s engagement with the IAIS in close collaboration with other representatives and stakeholders. Providing policy and analytical support as directed for the work required for IAIS (sub)committees and working groups and offering constructive challenges when necessary
  • Managing, developing and maintaining key relationships with IAIS, other regulatory bodies, government agencies and the financial services industry whilst staying updated on industry trends
  • Working closely with colleagues to assess the impact of international regulatory developments and analyse their implications
  • Leading work related to the implementation of the Common Framework for the Supervision of Internationally Active Insurance Groups (ComFrame), Insurance Core Principles as well as Insurance Capital Standards
  • Representing our client at various local, regional and international meetings, conferences and seminars with IAIS, involving meetings and information exchanges with regulatory bodies, government agencies and the financial services industry. Producing comprehensive reports on these meetings and providing insights to support our client’s ongoing regulatory activities
  • Contributing to or leading thought leadership initiatives on insurance and international regulatory issues. Preparing insightful and informative papers with strategic recommendations on regulatory matters
  • Performing other related work and special projects as assigned by the Deputy Director or other senior executives in accordance with competencies normally associated with the post

What you’ll need

  • A Master's degree or equivalent designation in Insurance, Finance, Actuarial or Accounting from a recognised institution or professional body
  • A minimum of ten (10) years' experience, with at least five (5) years at a senior level in the financial services business and/or working experience with a financial regulatory body
  • Strong knowledge of Bermuda, US, EU, UK and other international insurance regulatory environments, legislation and policy making processes. Experience in international organisations and an ability to operate at a senior level with the highest professional standards and personal integrity
  • Familiarity with international insurance regulatory standards and the Bermuda insurance primary and secondary legislation. A thorough understanding of the nature of financial services business conducted in Bermuda, particularly the insurance industry and of the Bermuda economy
  • Strong analytical, presentation, and communication skills (written and oral) with the ability to condense extensive material into concise key points for senior management review
  • Ability to assimilate facts, analyse and prioritise to ensure accuracy and consistency of procedures, as well as tact and discretion in dealing with sensitive and confidential matters
  • Ability to communicate and explain complex issues to a variety of audiences
  • Willingness to travel to international locations to represent our client’s in meetings at various forums
  • Demonstrable experience in managing complex projects within politically sensitive environments, analysing and interpreting policy and legislative provisions
  • Experience operating in an international environment and evidence of a track record that includes operating effectively within a diverse global multicultural environment
  • Experience as a thought leader as demonstrated through associations, committees, etc.
  • Ability to interface with the financial services industry, government and various international regulatory bodies
  • A strong work ethic, trustworthiness, commitment to meeting deadlines and excellent interpersonal skills
